School children benefit tremendously from chiropractic care. Back To Health Chiropractic Centre caters to school kids of all ages.

School Kids & Chiropractic CareIn today’s age school children and teens are experiencing more stress then ever before.  Stress experienced by children and teens overloads the nervous system, primarily the sympathetic nervous system.  As in adults, an increase in the body’s stress responses on a regular basis can have detrimental health consequences.

Is your school age child experiencing stress? Consider this ..

Stress comes in 3 main forms: 1. Physical, 2. Chemical and 3. Emotional.  Said another way, stress comes from trauma, toxins and thoughts (negative, self-limiting thoughts).

Traumas (Physical Stress):  How heavy is your child’s backpack? How many hours a week is your child using the computer, playing video games, texting,  watching TV / DVDS? Is your child involved in sports or activities like hockey, soccer, dance, martial arts.  All these are sources of ongoing physical stress on the neck and back.  How about falls? Falls from the baby change table, tumbles when the child learns to walk and falls while playing are all forms of physical stress.  Whether it’s repetitive ongoing physical stresses (micro-traumo) or sudden falls and impacts (macro-trauma), these will always put stress on the spine and nervous system.

Toxins (Chemical Stress):  What is your child eating? The proper food and nutrition is crucial for the growing body. Food fuels the brain, the nervous system and all vital organ functions.  Is your child eating wholesome , natural organic foods or processed foods? How much sugar, white flour and dairy is your child taking in? What kind of snacks is your child eating?  Processed foods, sugar, corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, chemical dyes, food additives and preservatives are know to stress the body, organ systems and the nervous systems.

Thoughts (Emotional Stress):  How is your child adapting to school and peer social dynamics? Is your child a victim of bullying? Does your child get along with his / her teacher? What is your child’s esteem level? How are relationships in the home? Negative thoughts from negative circumtances lead to negative emotions which increase stress in the body just as physical and chemical factors do. Which means that stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline are released in the body when there are negative emotions and negative thought patterns.  This puts organ systems and the nervous system under stress.

The nervous system is the master control system of the whole body. The spine protects the spinal cord, the main lifeline between the brain and the rest of the body.  Considering that stress from all sources can have a detrimental effect on the spine and nervous system, it is important that your school-aged child get a chiropractic spinal check-up.
