A Natural, Drugless Approach to Caring For Kids with Autism, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorders in Vaughan
It is well understood that conditions like Autism (Autism Sectrum Disorder), ADD/ADHD, and other sensory processing disorders are a neurodevelopmental problem.
A neurodevelopmental disorder is a condition where the development of the brain and the central nervous system has been disrupted. This can lead to neurosensory integration chaos where a child can begin to experience behaviours such as:
- Disliking tags in clothing.
- Avoiding messy play (mud, finger paint, dough, clay, sand).
- Disliking strong smells.
- Speaking in a loud voice.
- Having trouble following a moving object or catching a ball.
- Avoiding or having difficulty with activities that require balance.
- Having frequent outbursts or tantrums.
- Confusing right from left.
- Being a picky eater.
- Easily distracted by noises.
- Inability to sit still.
- Getting easily frustrated.
Although chiropractic is NOT a treatment for autism, ADD/ADHD, or other sensory processing disorders, many parents have reported significant health improvements and changes in their child.
The goal of chiropractic care is to assess for and correct for vertebral subluxations (aka spinal misalignments). Subluxations are small and abnormal shifts of the bones of the spine. These shifts create a significant interference on the function of the nervous system. The spinal cord sits inside the spinal column and is well protected when the spine is aligned normally. However, when the spine becomes misaligned, this creates tension on the spinal cord and nerves causing a disturbance in the normal flow of nerve information from the brain to the body.
When a chiropractor corrects this abnormal position of the spinal bones, the subluxation, that disturbance or interference on the spinal cord and nerves is reduced or removed. This allows for a better flow of nerve power and nerve information from the brain to the body.
Chiropractic adjustments has been shown in a recent research study to also have a direct positive effect on the prefrontal cortex of the brain. Think about the positive implications of this research finding. The prefrontal cortex of the brain is responsible for enabling and controlling a variety of neural systems. The prefrontal cortex is also in charge of coordinating and planning tasks when achieving a goal, for focusing attention, and for avoiding distractions. These are all important and useful functions but are significantly lacking in children with sensory processing disorders.
It is prudent, then, that a child with sensory processing disorders be checked for subluxations by a chiropractor and have any subluxations corrected to help improve nervous system function and brain function. In doing so, we are helping the child maximize their fullest potential, their fullest function, and to thrive and grow in the best version of themselves.
Again, we are not talking about treating any condition. Chiropractic aims to correct misaligned spinal bones and improve the function of the nervous system.

When I first entered the clinic of Dr Salubro, I did not expect much solution to my problems, after having seen several doctors and physiotherapists. I was proven wrong from the very beginning. Dr Salubro is incredibly professional. Not only did he examine my back carefully and prepared a well-thought plan to address my issues, but he explained every step of the plan. He takes pride in his work and is a firm believer that chiropractic is one of the best alternatives to more invasive treatments, namely medications and surgery. His enthusiasm is contagious and he works hard with his patients to achieve the right results and make others' lives better. If you need a chiropractor, Dr Salubro would be your best choice.

Hi it’s Darlene posting
When recommended by my family Dr. To see a Chiropractor I chose Walter Salubro. My husband had been seeing him for about 10 years and was more than satisfied. He explained things to me so I could understand and helped educate me on chiropractic care. He found issues with me I did not know I had and we are working well to improve them. The office is extremely friendly and caring. More than accommodating when booking appointments. I am glad I chose Back to Health Chirpractic Center and you will be too.
I found Dr. Walter when I was looking for chiropractic help during my pregnancy. I could barely walk due to my sciatica & on top of it my neck and shoulders hurt so badly I could barely sleep. Dr. Walter had me come in the next day, did the and examination & thoroughly explained to me everything that was happening to my spine & TAUGHT me a lot about how the body works. Right away I was set up on a program and by the second appointment my sciatic pain had completely subsided, I couldn’t believe how quickly he was able to solve the issue. I’ve been going to Back to Health Chiropractics every since, and so does my baby. Dr. Walter is very good at what he does & is extremely easy to talk to about issues you that may arise regarding bodily functions. Ontop of it all he is super nice, has fun client appreciation days & contests for adults and kids, and his receptionist is a very sweet lady too! Another great thing is I’m never waiting around for my appointment, he is always on time which is something I value as a mother with a young child who naturally isn’t very patient. I chose Dr. Walter because of the online reviews & I wasn’t let down! I am and will be a long term patient of Dr. Walter’s.
I came into this clinic with absolutely zero knowledge regarding chiropractic work on the referral of a family member. Opting in for a no risk assessment revealed a few things that could be improved in my overall health. After being with this clinic for a few months, I've noticed a change in mood where I've become significantly happier. Each visit I make is filled with confidence that I am getting better. Dr. Salubro's well educated advice and friendly demeanor has definitely been helping me each step at a time.
Dr. Walter has mentored me over the past 7-8 years now and has become a good friend. Not only is he a great Chiropractor but he is an awesome person as well. He cares for his patients like he would his own child and is very informative and a great teacher. He is always hosting complementary events for his patients in and out of his office. Thanks Dr. Walter for all you have done for me.
